AN OPEN LETTER TO STATE GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA

Dear Governors,
The recent protests across the country underscore the pressing need for proactive measures to address our nation's economic challenges. The discontent observed could have been mitigated if the increments in your FAAC allocations had been utilized more judiciously. By embracing and implementing Mr. President's CNG initiative, you could have helped alleviate the economic pressures and the impact of rising petroleum prices on your citizens. This initiative not only addresses the immediate hike in fuel costs but also offers a sustainable, long-term solution to economic bottlenecks, reducing the likelihood of future unrest and promoting stability in your states.
Our state governors should strategically allocate the funds from the fuel subsidy removal scheme, now part of their Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations, to invest in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, workshops, and training programs. Doing so not only capitalizes on the financial and environmental benefits of CNG but also showcases effective governance, decision-making, and innovative initiatives under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Financially, the subsidy removal creates an opportunity to channel funds into sustainable energy solutions like CNG, which is more affordable than traditional fuels. As fuel prices rise, CNG offers a cost-effective alternative that can ease the economic burden on citizens and businesses. By investing in CNG infrastructure, governors can promote economic stability and growth, demonstrating fiscal responsibility and forward-thinking leadership.
Environmentally, CNG is a climate-friendly alternative, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and pollutants than gasoline or diesel. By prioritizing CNG, state governments can significantly reduce their carbon footprint, aligning with global environmental goals and improving public health. This commitment to a cleaner environment reflects the administration’s dedication to sustainable development and responsible governance.
Moreover, investing in CNG infrastructure is a sustainable move that enhances energy security by reducing reliance on imported oil. It also supports local industries and job creation, fostering economic resilience. Through workshops and training programs, governors can equip the workforce with the skills needed for this transition, ensuring that the benefits of CNG are widely distributed.
Establishing CNG workshops and training programs equips youth with valuable skills in CNG technology, enabling them to become self-employed entrepreneurs. These trained individuals(Youths) can start businesses such as CNG conversion centers and maintenance workshops, which not only provide them with income but also create jobs for others in the state. As their businesses expand, they will need to hire additional staff, leading to further job creation. This approach not only reduces youth unemployment but also fosters a cycle of economic growth and sustainability, ultimately strengthening the state's economy and enhancing overall prosperity.
By making these investments, state governors not only address immediate economic and environmental challenges but also project the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one committed to good governance and innovative decision-making. These initiatives underscore a dedication to the well-being of Nigerians and to building a sustainable future, reflecting the visionary leadership expected from the President’s government.
Yours sincerely,
Owólèye Omolayò.
