The Honourable Minister Of State For Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, yesterday, received the National Bamboo Farmers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, led by the National President, Mr Ukeme Nyah. The delegation, during their presentation, introduced the various economic and ecological benefits of the bamboo, both for employment generation and export.

Mr. Ukeme noted that the 1.5 million hectares of Bamboo resources, which he called “Green Gold” can provide employment opportunities to youth and also improve the economy. He, therefore, requested for partnership with the Ministry through the National Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) to launch training scheme that will equip youth with bamboo cultivation, processing skills, and also encourage the use of local product.

In his response, the Minister commended the group for their proactiveness, particularly for identifying the NYIF as a tool for empowering young people. He also assured the group of the adoption of bamboo within the ministry to promote climate action and boost local use of indigenous products.

The Minister pledged to work with the association to finalize the framework for the training of young people in bamboo farming and other related sectors.
